The aims of Broadway Academy 2024/25 are:

We prepare students for life. 

We are an inner-city school, a very good school with circa 1300 students serving one of the most deprived wards in Europe. Our school motto is ‘Our Children, Our Community, Believe it can be done.’ We prepare students for life through a distinctive approach to education through a rich, exciting and vibrant curriculum. We have our own working farm and outdoor education centre, an hour away, we have extensive sports, arts, music and extracurricular programmes. Students love coming to Broadway, they feel safe, and excel academically. We are often in the top 10% of schools nationally for attendance and GSSE exam results and in the top 2% of schools (according to PISA DATA 2023) for students’ hope and optimism.

Broadway Academy operates within the parameters of the law. 

The law: Section 78(1) Education 2002 Act: 

(a) promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society, and  

(b) prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of life 

The objectives for Broadway Academy 2024 -2029 are to: 

1. To deliver an Exceptional Educational Experience through a rich and diverse curriculum.

• Ensure attendance and punctuality is outstanding.  
• Throughout the curriculum, assemblies, extra-curricular programmes and partnerships with faith communities there is a focus on students’ spiritual, cultural, mental and physical development. 
• Further develop the extra-curricular and co-curricular experience, for all students with a particular focus on the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Drama, outdoor education at Island Pool and outdoor learning at Esperance Farm. 
• Become a Centre of Excellence for RE, Sport and Music. 
• Increase sixth form numbers and expand the curricular offer, in the sixth form, to include vocational courses particularly associated with Esperance Farm and Island Pool Outdoor Centre. 
• We know that life is not linear and we want to prepare students for the challenges of life. We develop students’ character through a vibrant and exciting curriculum including assemblies, collective worship and established links with faith partners. 
• RE is a core subject for all students which helps them to explore the paradoxes and mysteries of faith and life, we believe it is important to contribute to their spiritual development, their Religious Literacy and their resilience. Romans 5.3…we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. 

2. To deliver exceptional teaching and learning that yields excellent outcomes for students. 

• Develop highly motivated, effective, reflective and passionate teachers who inspire a love of learning with all their students   

• The skills and technology associated with remote learning continue to be a key priority across the Academy. 
• Continue to focus on embedding communication skills to ensure all students, reach their expected reading age and can access all aspects of the curriculum. 
• The quality of learning will be evidenced through exceptional outcomes in all Key Stages with a focus on KS5 and very good behaviour and attitudes in lessons. 

3. To continue to develop leadership capacity and wellbeing across the academy.

• Maintain a sustainable, optimistic culture of hope in the school with a focus on mental, physical and spiritual health. 
• Embed high-quality training and coaching by Line Managers and a tailored programme of CPD which is supported by Performance Management for all staff. 
• Continue to reflect and review our ethos and the day-to-day life of Broadway – to further improve staff wellbeing and further improve efficiency and effectiveness. 

4. To empower students to go beyond compliance so that learning and behaviour is exceptional.

• Continue to support all staff in effectively managing students’ behaviour through excellent teaching and learning and intelligent use of ‘forecast data.’ 
• Build exceptional relationships between all staff and between staff and students. 
• Embed the Broadway values into all aspects of Academy life so that students take responsibility for their own learning and make correct choices, thus preparing them for life. 
• Build on the exceptional safeguarding response to gangs, drugs and youth violence and ensure safeguarding goes beyond compliance across all areas of the Academy. 
• Ensure that all 9 aspects of the Equality Act 2010 are embedded across all areas of the Academy. 

5. Further develop our community cohesion work, such as the Broadway Community Centre, Police, faith, business leaders, Radley College, other schools, international links and to explore opportunities for further development and Academy expansion with institutions that share our values and beliefs.
