Dear all,
Congratulations to students, parents and our skilful teachers for the work you have done to ensure students have achieved excellent results.
The 2022 exams, the first national exams for three years, have been very successful for Broadway pupils with some excellent results that have set students up for the next stage of their education and training. The Covid pandemic dramatically impacted the global education system.
At Broadway, we realised that it was important to maintain curriculum continuity. As a result of determined leadership we rapidly set up ‘Broadway Virtual Academy’. We maintained our exceptional attendance – with 96% of students attending on-line lessons.
The hard work of all staff in a tremendous team effort from: support staff, the teaching staff who delivered 14,000 live lessons, the IT team who made the Zoom lessons possible; the pastoral team who made tens of thousands of phone calls and pastoral visits, along with excellent teaching, a focus on literacy, attendance and an amazing enrichment programme -including activities at our Outdoor Center at Island Pool -have all contributed to the best results for many years. There are many success stories, but in particular:
- A strong pass (5+) EngMa 47% : the highest we have recorded since the measure was introduced
- A standard pass (4+) EngMa 62%: The highest we have recorded since the measure was introduced
- Attainment 8 score of 46.73 being far higher than in 2018 and 2019
- English, Maths and Science with higher attainment than in 2019
- A 12% increase in the number of pupils achieving 5 GCSE’s 9-5 including Maths and English (from 31% in 2019 to 43%)
- A 10% increase in pupils achieving 5 GCSE’s 9-4 including Maths and English (from 50% to 60%)
- Pupil Premium students attaining a grade above the 2019 national PP score – remember that studies have shown that nationally PP suffered more during lockdown – our PP students have performed well.
- Attainment 8 for High, Middle and Low prior attainment better than the national averages in 2019 and better than we achieved in 2019
- High and Middle prior attaining pupils hugely out-perform the 2019 national averages for 5+ in English and Maths
- In particular 59% of our Middle Prior Attainment pupils (the majority of our pupils) achieved a grade 5 or better in English AND Maths. The 2019 national figure was 22% ! A huge improvement to be proud of and the result of a lot of hard work, dedication and aspiration for a cohort containing over 90% Pupil Premium.
A huge thank you to all of you who are committed to living out the Broadway Values and endeavouring to ensure ALL our students achieve an Exceptional, Educational Experience (3E’s).
