Complaints
Following the closure of schools from the 23rd March 2020 Government guidelines stated:
Vulnerable children include those who have a social worker and those children and young people up to the age of 25 with education, health and care (EHC) plans.
Those with an EHC plan should be risk-assessed by their school in consultation with the local authority (LA) and parents, to decide whether they need to continue to be offered a school or college place in order to meet their needs, or whether they can safely have their needs met at home. This could include, if necessary, carers, therapists or clinicians visiting the home to provide any essential services. Many children and young people with EHC plans can safely remain at home.
In order to ensure that our students with EHC plans are supported we have consulted families with regards to whether or not their child needs to attend the Academy. We have ensured that the expectations for work being done at home is understood and that students can access the work being set by Academy staff. As an Academy we are undertaking multiple weekly check ins to ensure that student outcomes are kept at the forefront and that their emotional needs are being met. Work set by class teachers takes in to account the needs of the students in their classes and is open-ended in nature to allow students to engage with and further their own learning.
Contacting Staff for Additional Support
Parents of SEND students may require additional support at this time. This can be obtained by contacting the Academy on 0121 5664330 and asking reception for a message to be passed to the SENCO Ms Bailey or a member of the SEND department. Transition Support
There is an awareness that the transition period for students with SEND joining or leaving Broadway will be greatly affected by the current situation, however we will endeavour to continue to work alongside our Primary schools and Post 16 providers to ensure that accurate and appropriate transition information is shared to enable continuity of provision.
Over the coming weeks during the Summer term we will begin to send out transition information, activities and necessary documents to ensure that all students transition will be fully supported and that students are prepared for the next phase of their education.
Resources that support our Students’ Social, Emotional and Mental Health during this unprecedented time have been uploaded on to the Academy website and the Academy Wellbeing Page on Frog. These will continue to be updated as new information is received.
New referrals to external agencies will only be made if necessary following the usual graduated response process detailed in the Information report. However, where students are experiencing wellbeing, Social, Emotional or Mental Health issues they may be signposted to one of the following services Zumos, an online wellbeing website, Kooth an online counselling service or Pause is a local service that supports mental health.
