Special Educational Needs
The progress of Special Educational Needs Students is carefully monitored through
- A regular cycle of assessment for all students in all subjects every 6 weeks to track progress, adapt teaching and deploy additional support where necessary.
- A rigorous system for tracking and monitoring the progress and attainment of pupil progress for all SEN students in line with the Academy’s assessment cycle.
- Comprehensive monitoring allows appropriate support to be initiated as quickly as possible to ensure students continue to make the necessary progress.
- The class teachers records, observes how students progress and engage in class.
- Regular communication and meetings between the SENCO, Pastoral teams, Curriculum leaders and teachers to inform, monitor and evaluate the quality of education and assessments.
- Regular reading and key skills assessments to capture measure progress
- Student voice and parent voice is sought to ensure the educational experiences of SEND students is engaging and accessible yet with appropriate challenge via reviews, consultations and parental meetings. .
- Individual target reviews are held for SEND pupils
- Pastoral panel keeps SEN students in focus at all times.
- Timely support and appropriate interventions to improve outcomes and develop a love of learning.
- The Deep Support Leadership group meets weekly to highlight, discuss and share information at a Senior level includes SEND pupils
- All staff complete Raising Attainment Plans at each data point to track pupil progress and includes strategies for raising attainment.
- Staff with concerns submit a 4 plus 1 referral form to the SENCo
The following process takes place following a concern being raised:
- A discussion will take place between you on how to best support your child –
- The SENCO is informed and monitors the child’s progress informally, offering specialist support to decide on the best support to provide. –
- If necessary a Pupil Profile will be formulated that includes any strategies/interventions that your child may require –
- Targets may be set to support pupils to make progress; they are measured after an eight week intervention cycle.
- If your child’s difficulties continue after intervention/strategies have been put in place a further intervention may be used or specialist assessment tracker may be used to monitor progress
