EID and INSET day 21st April 2023 – NEU Strike Action on 27th April and 2nd May

EID and INSET day 21st April 2023 – NEU Strike Action on 27th April and 2nd May

Dear Parents and Carers

EID and INSET day on Friday 21st April 2023
NEU Strike Action on Thursday 27th April 2023 and Tuesday 2nd May 2023

As is the tradition at Broadway Academy in our endeavour to support our community during Eid, we will be closing the school to ALL students on Friday 21st April for an INSET day for staff training. We would like to wish you a very happy Eid al-Fitr!

Further to my previous letters dated 27th January, 27th February and 8th March, you will be aware from the media that the National Education Union (NEU) has announced national and regional strike action for teachers in England. The next strikes are scheduled for Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May.

The strikes are happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the Government over teacher’s pay and not because of any issues with the school.

We have a number of NEU members at Broadway Academy who will be striking. Our first priority is the safety of students and staff; therefore, the following arrangements have been put in place for Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May:

  • All year 11, 12 and 13 students and students identified as vulnerable will be expected to attend school as normal. A separate letter will be sent for the vulnerable students.
  • Students in year 10 will be expected to attend virtual learning via zoom.
  • Year 7, 8 and 9 will be at home and will be set work to complete.
Students on FSM will be able to collect lunch on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May from the canteen back gate after 10.00am.

Please note that school will be closed on bank holiday Monday 1st May and 8th May. The times of the school day will revert to normal on Monday 24th April.

Yours faithfully

Mr R Skelton Headteacher and CEO
