Course Description		 This course is popular among students who are keen to study a practical subject and explore individual creative ideas and style. Pupils are given a sketchbook at the beginning of the course which is expected to document and contain designs, research and ideas which may be done in class but mainly for homework. This will be handed in at the end of the course. Unit 1 a portfolio requires the pupil to produce work based on a theme, starting point or brief set by the school. Unit 2 is the set task from exam board which requires pupils to choose a starting point from a list and prepare work over a number of weeks, resulting in a final idea which will be done within 10 hours set exam time. This course consists of these two Units.

Pupils can produce work within a number of areas, and develop skills in different media and techniques, allowing them to create work which suits their ability and preference.
Your teacher and an external verifier will assess the work in your portfolio and exam at the end of the course.
ART TEXTILES
The only difference between art and art textiles is that textiles allows much more exploration of materials and techniques. Skills such as hand embroidery and machine are developed within ideas to produce fabric based final pieces. The drawing side is still required to show how ideas have progressed to the fabric stage.
What kind of pupil would this course suit? The course requires students to develop the ability to research, plan carefully, and work independently on developing design ideas resulting with an end product. Visits may take place and workshops with artists occur within school.  Students need the ability to pursue an idea in greater detail with regard to only one scenario for portfolio being required. The ability to research and pursue ideas fully will be a big advantage.
