New Events for 2016

3 week multisport programme

Come and join the teachers and coaches at Broadway Academy and take part in our multisport programme. The sessions will look at different sports not necessarily taught on the curriculum or we can tailor the programme to concentrate on developing the skills needed by your pupils. The course is completely free and runs for 3 weeks. Start dates are flexible to meet your needs and sessions will be held on a Monday from 2.05pm for either 1 or 2 hours.

Science Event – 50 pupils maximum

Spend an hour in our amazing planetarium before experiencing our science labs where you will investigate how the human body works

Tuesday 15th March

Smoothie Making (D&T) – Year 5 – 20 pupils maximum

1.05pm – 3.05pm

Spend the afternoon learning about healthy eating and making delicious healthy snacks

Tuesday 15th March

Art Workshop (D&T) – Year 5 – 20 pupils maximum

1.05pm – 3.05pm

Experiment with different art materials to create your very own master piece.

Wednesday 16th March

Buggy Making (D&T)- Year 5 – 20 pupils maximum

Design, build and race your buggy

Meet some animals of the rainforest and learn how they adapt to their environment.  Suitable for year 5 or 6

 

Tuesday 23rd June 2015 :-  Comic Strip Workshop

A combination of literacy and art where students develop a comic strip story.  Suitable for year 4, 5 or year 6

 

Wednesday 17th June 2015:-  Blakesley Hall

Visit to Blakesley Hall to look at ‘Rich and Poor’ in Tudor Times.  Suitable for year 5.

 

Thursday 9th July 2015  :-  Art Workshop.  Suitable for year 5 or year 6.

 

 

Primary School Matinee Performance on 16 December 2014 

90 Primary School students from Yew Tree Community School and St George’s CE Academy visited Broadway Academy to watch a performance of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. After the performance the students had a chance to meet the cast during a question and answer session.

  Able, Gifted and Talented Drama workshop at Canterbury Cross Primary School   Able, Gifted and Talented trip to Stratford On Thursday 06 February 2014 30 Able, Gifted and Talented girls from year 6, 7 and 8 travelled to Stratford upon Avon to watch “The Taming of the Shrew” and take part in a workshop. The students from Broadway Academy and Canterbury Cross Primary School enjoyed the Shakespeare play and had plenty of questions for the actors afterwards. After half term the year 7 students will visit Canterbury Cross Primary School to conduct a follow up workshop where students from both schools will act out some of the scenes of the play. a g t 1   Budding gymnasts enjoy sporting success at Broadway Academy In January 2014 Broadway Academy hosted the annual primary gymnastics competition for its surrounding primary schools. Nearly 70 students from 11 schools fought individually and in teams of 6 for the title of Partnership Winners. The students performed a routine on the floor, before they moved on to the vault. This year’s competition saw the biggest number of entries and some of the best scores since the competition started eight years ago. Grant Stewart, Deputy Headteacher at Broadway Academy presented the winners with their medals. gymnasts   Book Reading event with Adventurer Sarah Outen MBE Adventurer Sarah Outen visited Broadway Academy in between her training sessions for the second leg of her human powered trip around the world. Sarah ran two workshops with Broadway students before she read from her book “A Dip in the Ocean”. This evening event was open to students from Broadway Academy and their parents as well as to students from the neighbouring primary schools. In her book Sarah describes her journey across the Indian Ocean going solo in a rowing boat. An audience made up from students, parents and teachers was enthralled by her fascinating story and Sarah had to answer a lot of questions about her trip before she signed books. sarah outen   Reading Scheme at Sacred Heart Primary School Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday a number of year 12 students from Broadway Academy visit Sacred Heart Primary School to lead on guided reading activities with year 3 and 4 students. The reading sessions are highly popular with the primary students and offer a fantastic enrichment opportunity for our students.

 

Diary of a Wimpy Kid  – Cartoon workshop and meet the author 4 December 2013 30 year 6 and 7 students enjoyed an afternoon of cartoon drawing at Broadway Academy and meeting Jeff Kinney, the author of the books at the New Alexandra Theatre. 3   Music Maze on the Move 9 November 2013 The Birmingham Contemporary Music Group ran their first workshop for year 6, 7 and 8 students at Broadway Academy. The students played a variety of instruments and composed their own pieces. This event will be repeated on a regular basis throughout the academic year 2013/2014. 2 Summer Term 2013 Year 6 students at Yew Tree Primary School enjoyed German lessons, learning about German culture and how to conduct basic conversations. The Schnappi song was a favourite!
